    About Alcorn State University

Alcorn State University is the nation’s oldest, historically black, land-grant university (HBCU) and the second oldest public university in Mississippi. Alcorn State offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in more than 50 top-degree programs. Located on 1700 acres in Lorman, Mississippi, with branches in Vicksburg and Natchez, the University is celebrating 150 years of academic excellence.

Alcorn State University is nationally ranked as top-20 Best HBCU by U.S. News and World Report. In addition to its generous scholarship opportunities, Alcorn’s tuition and fees are among the lowest in the region. The University is ranked among all HBCUs as the most affordable for online bachelor’s (no. 3), online master’s (no. 8), and bachelor’s (no. 13). In another national ranking, it is ranked second for the most affordable online master’s degree in biology.

Outside of the classroom, students are involved in NCAA Division I athletics as well as more than 60 organizations and clubs, including student-run radio and television stations, study abroad, and the 200-strong Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band.

Finding the right college for you is as much about “feel” as anything. That’s why we encourage you to visit our beautiful campus. When you visit, you will see what we mean when we talk about becoming part of the Alcorn family.

Hello, my name is Vanessa Washington. I'm a biology pre-medicine major from Little Rock, Arkansas. And right now we're standing right outside the math and science building.

All my classes are in here because I am a biology major. So if you're majoring from anything from biochemistry, chemistry, biology, mathematics, your classes will be right inside this building.

This is the JD Boyd Library, your window into the world's knowledge base. In here you can come for a quick study for a test you may have the next day or just to get some peace and quiet. You'll also find your local Starbucks. You can come early in the morning or late at night to get something refreshing just before you go back to your dorm.

Within the physical library on campus, you'll find books, journals, magazines, audio-visual materials, newspapers, and more. You also can access library resources from your residence hall, home, or office.

At the Caf, we provide students, faculty, and staff with healthy meal options while also providing excellent customer service. There are many different meal options here at the Caf.

You have your burger station, entree station, salad station, and pizza station. You also have themed days: Fried Chicken Wednesdays, and Fish Fridays. Now I'm going to pass it off to my friend Chris, who will tell you more about our campus bookstore.

Thanks, Vanessa. My name is Chris, a junior plant and soil science tutor for [inaudible] Mississippi. Today, I'm at the campus bookstore. At the bookstore, you'll find books, snacks, and some campus merch. Like this shirt right here.

Alcorn State University is the home we're at Oakland Memorial Chapel a historic church in an academic building here on campus.

Thank you for joining us on his tour. I hope to see you soon! Go Braves!
