The Alcorn educational experience is one that moves out of the walls of a formal classroom, which include lab experiences and high-tech well equipped labs as we think about our STEM experiences.
But an added feature of being at Alcorn State University is that you get this outside landscape, these labs that exist in fields and you're in this outside oasis as a part of your learning experience.
I really, really wanted to study music. I came here and found a set of people that were willing to work with the talent that I came with. Whether it was teaching me theory, teaching me voice, teaching me oral skills, teaching me to play the piano.
I've entered regional and state competitions, either won or place in the region. Because of the work that I've put in here at Alcorn State University. So I would say it was one of the best decisions to follow my dream. And my dream led me here, I imagine will continue to lead me to other places.
The faculty at Alcorn is one of the most exciting aspects of the academic experience. For while students choose to come to Alcorn for their specific major, it's the faculty who deliver the instruction.
Our faculty range from senior faculty who hold millions of dollars in research grants from the USDA and other federal organizations to relatively young tenure track assistant professors who've won awards in their fields. As we seek to recruit new and exciting students, it's also our goal that we recruit new and exciting faculty as well.
We have several 100 departments that are going into Fortune 500 companies that are working on Wall Street. And so I would say the department has really helped us in ensuring that we build a professional brand and be able to stand out among our peers for less [inaudible].
